For Mount Sinai Community
Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Change Targets
Incremental desired outcomes or end results of the GSBS guiding coalition’s actions that strategically lead towards the vision.
Where we started
In December 2022, the GSBS guiding coalition hosted a two-day data walk to reflect on and engage in dialogue about the data collected from annual student surveys, exit surveys, course evaluations, and culture and climate surveys. The methodology of the data walk was designed to present this information in an engaging and thought-provoking manner. For a complete description of the GSBS data walk, please read our article, "Building Trust and Transparency in Biomedical Sciences Through Data Walks" here.
In September 2023, the GSBS guiding coalition hosted a second data walk, inviting members of the GSBS community to reflect on and engage in dialogue about the Project Community Map, which outlines existing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism (DEIA) projects in the Graduate School. Through their interactions with the data and dialogue with coalition members, participants identified twenty recommendations for change.
In 2024, the GSBS guiding coalition developed and implemented its first four change targets—incremental desired outcomes that strategically lead toward the vision of fostering an anti-racist future in the Graduate School. This future will be characterized by increased representation, equitable access, educational approaches, and curricula that support and sustain a diverse biomedical workforce, promote scientific advancement, and restore a sense of community and mutual care. Each year the guiding coalition course-corrects existing change targets and identifies new ones that realign and reinforce our efforts.
