About the Fellowship

The mission of the Anti-Racism Student Fellowship is to support and advance the lifelong pursuit of anti-racism, equity, and racial justice as organizing principles of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Through advancing student contributions, the fellowship represents a yearly opportunity for students to create impact.

Fellowship Benefits & Eligibility

Fellows will:

  • Establish close partnerships with faculty across the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS), often resulting in mentorship, scholarly work, and reference letters.
  • Acquire new skills and competencies, which can be valuable for career advancement.
  • Be part of meaningful transformational change that can reignite passion and motivation, seeing the impact of your contributions at the individual and institutional levels.
  • Serve as an invaluable capacity-development resource for the ISMMS
  • Longitudinally work on an anti-racism project
  • Are supported by project mentor
  • Have opportunities, if applicable, to convert project into scholarly product(s)*
  • Receive $5,000

All current Medical, PREP, Master’s, PhD and MD/PhD students are eligible to apply.

Application Process

Students will complete an application that includes selecting interested projects, responding to application questions, and submission of an updated resume. Applications will be reviewed by a committee of students, faculty, and staff who will decide on accepted applications.

The 2024-2025 application is now closed. The 2025-2026 application will open in September 2025.
